The boys golf team is proving itself as one of the top competitors in the state this season, showing consistency, growth, and strong leadership despite challenges along the way. As the season progresses, the team continues to build its identity and push towards success.
“We have proven that we are a top 3 team in the State of Nebraska,” head coach Jered Hellman said. “We have one team victory and numerous second place team finishes.”
The team’s success has not come from one defining moment, but rather a steady commitment to improvement at every tournament.
“Our season is a journey, every event is a time for us to get better,” Hellman said. “Our motto is ‘Forged, Not Found.’ We want to get sharper each and every tournament and that’s the goal.”
After graduating a core group of players, this year’s team has focused on stepping up and creating its own identity.
“This team needed to find its own identity,” Hellman said. “The current boys are a part of that and now have taken the reins and made this their program. I couldn’t be more proud of the hard work and dedication the boys have put in.”
That growth has not come as a surprise to Hellman, who challenged his players to rise to the occasion.
“I have learned to not be surprised at this group,” Hellman said. “I challenged them to step up this offseason, and they did that. I have challenged them to be leaders and they have stepped up. This is a very special group of young men.”
The season has also brought personal challenges for Hellman, as he balances coaching with supporting his wife through her battle with cancer. Despite this, the team has rallied around him.
“This season has been extremely hard for me as a coach,” Hellman said. “My wife’s battle with cancer takes me away from the team at times. However, we discuss it together, and the boys have been beyond supportive. We are all battling each day to get better.”
Leadership across the team has been a key factor in their success, with multiple players stepping up when needed.
“All of the returning golfers have been incredible,” Hellman said. “This whole crew has stepped up. I am beyond blessed to lead a group of hardworking, caring difference makers.”
As the season continues, the team’s focus remains clear: keep improving, stay united, and finish strong as one of the top teams in the state.
