The Warriors turned in a strong all-around performance at the Gretna Invite, finishing second as a team behind a series of standout efforts across sprints, distance, relays, and field events.
Senior leadership played a major role in the Warrior’s success, with multiple upperclassmen stepping up in key moments. In the sprints, senior Devlin Harrington led the way individually, placing second in the 100-meter dash in a competitive field. Sophomore Will Urosevich also delivered a strong performance, taking second in the 200-meter dash and continuing his emergence as a reliable sprint threat for the Warriors.
The two sprinters later teamed up with Mo Purify and Colin Hawkins to help secure a third-place finish in the 4×100-meter relay, showing both depth and chemistry in the short sprint group. The relay performance highlighted the Warriors’ ability to compete across multiple events, even in a tightly contested meet.
In distance events, junior Devin Neumann had a solid showing, finishing third in the 3200-meter run. Neumann said staying healthy and building consistency has been a major focus as the season progresses.
“I feel like, big picture the main thing is I’m healthy coming down to the end of the season,” Neumann said. “Last year I had a good start then got sick mid-season and never really got back to 100%. My goal was to beat 10:00 in the 3200 during the regular season.”
Neumann also emphasized continued improvement as he looks ahead to the final stretch of the season.
“I think I can drop some time on the mid-late splits,” Neumann said. “I’m also looking forward to the 1600. Still some goals there as well.”
His performance at Gretna reflected the progress he has made throughout the season, and his ability to compete near the front of the field could become increasingly important for the Warriors in upcoming meets. As postseason competition approaches, distance races often become just as valuable in team scoring as sprint and field events, giving the Warriors another area of strength.
In the field events, the Warriors picked up several major scoring performances. Sophomore Jacob Obermeyer placed second in the discus, adding valuable points and showing continued development in the throws. His performance helped the Warriors maintain momentum throughout the meet and added to an already balanced team effort.
The highlight of the meet came in the jumping events, where senior Mo Purify delivered one of the top performances in the entire state. Purify captured first place in the long jump with a mark of 24-01.25, a jump that now puts him at number one in the state in the event. His performance gave the Warriors a major boost in the team standings and firmly established him as one of the top athletes in Nebraska this season.
Senior Tyler Vaughns also secured a first-place finish, winning the triple jump and further strengthening the Warriors’ dominance in the horizontal jumps. Between Purify and Vaughns, the Warriors controlled both jumping events and contributed a significant portion of the team’s overall points total.
The Warriors’ success at the Gretna Invite was not built around one event group alone. Instead, contributions came from nearly every area of the lineup, something that could prove important later in the season when team depth becomes even more critical. From sprinting and distance running to relays and field events, the Warriors consistently found ways to score points throughout the meet.
With strong performances across sprints, distance, relays, and field events, the Warriors’ second-place finish at the Invite reflects both depth and balance. While several athletes had individual standout moments, the overall team effort continued to show progress as the season moves forward.
As the postseason approaches, the Warriors appear to be building momentum at the right time, with multiple athletes positioning themselves for strong finishes in their respective events.
