Senior McCartney Bazar has found a new home at Westside and has become an exciting addition to the girls track team. She has been doing track for six years but recently transferred from Papillion LaVista. With the new season, she set goals to make sure her last year is a great year.
“My goals for this season were to just have fun, and enjoy every moment of my last season,” Bazar said. “My final goals are to place at state.”
Bazar was a dominant athlete during her years at Papillion LaVista and state is not an unknown place for her. Moving schools is never easy but the memories always make the transition better. Bazar proved that when she shared what her favorite track memory was.
“My favorite track memory was placing at state in both high and triple jump last season,” Bazar said.
Bazar has been a serious competitor on the track but she is not just a one sport athlete. She also competes in gymnastics for the Omaha Gymnastics Academy. Gymnastics has been a very important part of her life and she made that very clear when talking about her future plans.
“I am not continuing track in college, but I am continuing my gymnastics career at a 4 year university,” Bazar said.
Sports have been a very influential part of her life as she plans on studying sports management in college. Westside is known for having great athletic programs which is one of the things that helped Bazar decide to become a Warrior. Now that she is a part of District 66 she has learned about all the other things Westside has to offer.
“Westside has truly had such a positive impact on me, not only physically but mentally as well,” Bazar said. “Since I have transferred, I have made friendships I will never take for granted, and opportunities that have made me a better person.”
She has not been here for long but there is no time limit to what someone can bring to a new place. Every athlete can make an impact on a team and sometimes the ones that are the most impactful are the newest ones. Bazar explained how she thinks she has impacted the team.
“I feel like I have a good impact at Westside by being apart of Westside, and trying my best to bring a light to the track team and being more positive,” Bazar said.
Having an impact during the season is an amazing feeling but it feels even better knowing that the impact stays after the athlete is gone. One of the most beneficial things for a team is young athletes that have grown because of the impact their older teammates have had on them. Bazar hopes her younger teammates can learn something new from her.
“I hope to leave inspiration to never give up on your goals, and to push through when things get hard,” Bazar said.
Bazar will be lacing up for the last time very soon but her memory on the Westside track team will live on for years to come.
