On May 13 and 14, the Westside girls tennis team competed in the Omaha Metro Tournament. This tournament was hard fought with the Warriors finishing 3rd overall.
“Finishing at metros clearly showcased the team’s significant growth since the start of the season,” Coach Betsy Kingston said. “They have not only improved their individual skills but also developed stronger collaboration and resilience, consistently rising to meet challenges and exceeding expectations.”
Instead of focusing on what place the girls finished, Kingston talks about their unity and determination which led them to success.
“The athletes consistently supported each other, which helped boost morale and led to impressive results across all positions.”
The girls will now shift their focus to the Class A State tournament being held May 21 and 22. Kingston talks about the team’s major challenges going forward.
“One of the biggest is adapting to the high level of competition, as they will be up against some of the strongest teams in the region. Maintaining their unity and positive energy under increased pressure will be essential, especially as the stakes are higher and expectations are greater,” Kingston said. “Additionally, the team will need to quickly adjust their strategies if they encounter bad weather and the matches get moved indoors. Staying resilient, focused, and supportive of each other will be crucial to overcoming these challenges and performing at their best.”
After a strong performance at metros, the team is feeling confident and determined.
“Their significant growth throughout the season, both in skill and in resilience, shows they can rise to any challenge” Kingston said.
