The girls soccer team is continuing its strong season at Westside. The Warriors dominated the first round of districts, defeating Omaha Westview 8–0 to advance to the district finals.
“Heading into the district final I’m not really nervous as of right now,” sophomore Bri Jasa said.
The girls team will play the 14-3 Elkhorn South Storm and will punch their ticket to state with a win. The Warriors have a 8–7 record and are determined to do great things this Wednesday. Westside has already faced the Storm once this season and are fired up for a rematch, looking to even the score after falling to them in their previous matchup.
“Coming back from a loss to Elkhorn South, I feel like as a team we all have a drive to want to beat them,” Jasa said. “I will probably just use all my anger and drive to try and win every tackle.”
The Storm has been one of the Warriors’ biggest rivals this year, especially since they were the team that knocked Westside out of districts last year.
“They kicked us out of going to state last year and I don’t want them to do it again,” Jasa said. “Also it makes me just want to beat them even more to knock them out of going to state so they know how it feels.”
Even though the end of the soccer season is near, sophomore Audrey Meyerson reflects on the season and emphasizes how the journey they’ve been on has helped the team reach this point.
“The season has definitely had its ups and downs but I think as a team we have really grown as well as how we work together on the field,” Meyerson said. “We definitely have had to prove ourselves but I think we’ve done a pretty good job at getting that done.”
Looking ahead to the final game, the team’s mindset and determination will take Westside far in what could be their final game of the season.
“Our goal for the final is just to play our best, go out there and work hard,” Meyerson said.
The game will be played at Elkhorn South on Wednesday, May 6, at 5:00 p.m. The Warriors have emphasized hard work throughout the season, and with that focus along with a strong mindset, they look to extend their season and earn the chance to play at Morrison Stadium.
“If you aren’t putting your all on the field when you’re out there you aren’t doing enough,” Meyerson said. “I think just doing the best you can and having a good attitude is the most important thing you can do.”
