Freshman golfer played in US Kids World Championship

Freshman Tye Treadwell has found a lots of success on the golf course. He played in the US Kids World Championship located in North Carolina and the Mack Champ Invitational located in Houston, Texas. After placing well in both he has made a name for himself in Omaha.

Treadwell originally started playing golf because his dad introduced him to the sport. He started at a young age with his dad and he’s been playing ever since.

“My dad started me at age 3,” Treadwell said. “He started me young and I haven’t stopped playing it. He is all my motivation in the sport and is why I play it.”

The tournaments he plays in can be very competitive. Golf can be very mentally challenging which is part of the reason Tye plays. He has effective strategies that help him lock in while on the course. This is one of the reasons he has made some very important accomplishments and achievements within the game.

“The challenge in golf is that it’s not easy and so mentally challenging,” Treadwell said. In golf if someone is not focused at all times they can lose focus easily. “I’ve been Nebraska player of the year and I never would have done it without being very mentally strong,” he said.

Fellow freshman Knox Pocras has competed in many of the same tournaments Treadwell has. Pocras had some things to say about Tye’s game and mindset on the course.

“What makes Tye so good is his consistency from shot to shot and he always stays very calm,” Knox said.

Golf is known as a game to set goals in and track one’s own improvement. This is why Treadwell has put goals in place for himself.

“Hopefully after high school, I will have had a successful career at Westside and move on into college. I hope to turn pro and one day play in the tour. I just want to stay on that path and make my dad proud,” he said.

Pocras then confirmed this as a reality saying that Tye has always been very committed to the sport. “He’s always shown great potential to play in college and someday may even reach the tour,” Pocras said.
