A highly contagious, aggressive and new strain of influenza A has been going around for the late autumn months of 2025, carrying into winter 2026. This flu has infected over 19 million Americans and it is continuing to thrive.
This strand of influenza is scientifically known as subclade K. While not a declared medical term, many have dubbed it the “Super Flu.” It is now spreading rapidly across the United States.
The reason this variant has been nicknamed Super Flu is because of the increasingly severe symptoms it has caused for it’s victims. This includes, a fever of over 104º, severe body aches, nausea, dry cough, absence of voice, extreme fatigue and persistent chest pain. These symptoms seem to leave for short periods of time, but eventually come back worse.
Another thing that makes this disease so intense is the high-speed rate in which it spreads. It is the highest level of flu like illness spread we’ve seen in over 25 years. With about 19 million reported cases, 270,000 hospitalizations and 10,000 deaths, it does not seem to be slowing down.
Starting with the first reported case in Florida, it has migrated across North America. There have been record breaking hospitalizations in California, Texas and New York. Many people have been affected in Nebraska as well; including a few hundred from the Westside district.
Without vaccination the illness is even more intense. Symptoms will worsen and the disease will linger on longer than it does for the vaccinated. Over 90% of those who died because of the flu, did not receive their yearly flu shot.
Besides the vaccine, the only other treatment that can alleviate the sickness is TamiFlu or some sort of antibodies. Many who have already had another virus this season have reported having less severe symptoms and being sick for shorter amount of time.
Expert recommend to keep yourself and others safe, stay home when sick, wash your hands frequently and consider getting vaccinated.
