Addison Davis is currently in her senior season of the Westside Swim and Dive team. She has competed on the team for all four years, and is looking forward to ending her career positively.
“I’m excited to be in my last season,” Davis said. “I am also mad and sad.”
Davis has also competed three times in the Special Olympics 50 at the State Championship meet.
“She has a great shot at returning to the meet again this year, and posting a best time,” Westside Swimming Head Coach Andy Rider said.
Rider has seen Davis grow and develop throughout her Westside career.
“Each year, she has improved her times and skills. She shows up to practice every day with a great attitude, and a big personality,” Rider adds.
Senior Captain Sadie Rogers has also been a part of the team for four years. She and Davis do club and school swimming together.
“She is honestly so positive,” Rogers said. “She is always smiling and she is always happy to be at practice. She is a huge part of our culture.”
Davis will leave a lasting legacy on the team even after she graduates this Spring.
Freshman teammate Whitney Leach notes,”Swimming with her has added so much to this team, and she makes it feel like a family. I am so lucky to get to share it with her.”
But it isn’t just her attitude that has an impact on the swim team. Her work ethic is contagious.
“She sets a really good example for working hard,” Rogers adds. “She comes to practice to practice, and I think that gives people a bar to reach for.”
Just ask Davis what advice she would give to new swimmers, and she quickly answers:
“Listen to the coaches and keep practicing,” Davis said.
While others note Davis’s positive effect on team culture, that culture has also had a huge effect on her. She credits the friends she’s made as her favorite part about the team.
“She has grown not only as a swimmer, but also as a person,” Rider said. “As she made friends on the team and became comfortable, she blossomed.”
That comfort inspired her to embrace several additional roles. She is the team manager of the girls basketball team, and members of the unified cheer and track team. Davis has the opportunity to shine in the pool this year, but she will leave lasting impressions on her teammates for years to come.
“I think she will be remembered for her smile,” said Rogers. “She makes everyone around her happy.”
