The girls swim season has come to an end, and the team finished on a strong note by placing 4th at the state championship. The Warriors also earned 3rd place in the 200 medley relay. Individually, senior Sadie Rogers had an impressive meet, placing 2nd in both the 100 breaststroke and the 200 IM. Berkley Gemar also had a strong performance, finishing 2nd in the 100 backstroke and 3rd in the 100 butterfly. Lily Gentry placed 4th in the 200 freestyle, helping round out a successful end to the season for the team.
Even though the state meet is the last memory a lot of these girls have of the season. There were so many great memories they made throughout.
“My favorite moment from swim season was when we finished our four free relay and we knew the season was over, we just hugged and it was so emotional.” Sean Hughes said.
Senior Elizabeth Bender talks about how some of the best parts of the season came from outside of the pool.
“My favorite memory was our team dinners after a rough practice, they really brought us together as a team.” Bender said
Swimming can often be a very tough sport. One day you might have a race that’s your best time, and the very next day you could add a few seconds. The girls team has always looked past that part of the sport, focusing instead on supporting each other after every race, which has helped make them a more united team.
“We always had each other’s backs.” Bender said.
“We cheered for every race and were there no matter how the race went,”
Sean also emphasized on how the team lifted each other up during the season.
“This year we supported each other by making sure everyone felt confident before their swims and doing everything we can for each other during practice and meets.” Hughes said.
As a senior swimmer, Bender shared what stood out most about the team this season and explained why she will miss being a part of it.
“One thing I will remember most were all the amazing and unique personalities on the team that I got to know and love,” Bender said.
