Balancing two demanding sports is no easy task, but for senior Evlyn Jasa, it has become second nature. As both a track athlete and diver, she has found a way to not only manage the workload, but thrive in it, leaving a lasting impact on both teams in her final year. Jasa’s track journey began in an unexpected way.
“I joined track in seventh grade because I wanted another activity to do with my friends. I ended up having lots of fun and decided to continue it when I got into high school,” said Jasa.
What started as a social activity quickly turned into something more, as Jasa developed into a standout pole vaulter. Her success in track even led her to explore a second sport, diving.
“I joined the dive to help me with my air perception and body awareness for pole vault. I ended up falling completely in love with a sport and competing it year round,” said Jasa.
The crossover between the two sports has proven beneficial. Skills like spatial awareness and control in the air have helped elevate her performance, especially in pole vault, where precision is everything.
As a senior, Jasa has stepped into a leadership role on both teams, setting the tone for younger athletes.
“In diving, I lead warm-ups and help coach the underclassmen. I also tried to lead by example by always doing warm-ups to the best of my ability in track. I am team captain and lead warm-ups, help with drills, and try to demonstrate as much as possible,” said Jasa.
Her leadership extends beyond instruction, she emphasizes effort, consistency, and leading through action. Jasa’s high school career is already filled with memorable moments.
“My favorite memory from high school track was breaking the school record my sophomore year and my favorite memory from diving was qualifying for state my second year,” said Jasa.
With those accomplishments behind her, Jasa is now focused on what comes next. She plans to continue her athletic career at the collegiate level while pursuing a meaningful academic path.
“I plan to compete in the pole vault at the collegiate level and potentially start a dive team at my college and compete in both sports. I plan on studying nursing to become a labor and delivery nurse,” said Jasa.
As she looks ahead to the future, Jasa remains focused on finishing her senior season strong.
“I’m so excited to start studying something I am passionate about and start competing at a higher level. I hope to finish out this season by qualifying for state and medaling in the top five,” said Jasa.
From breaking records on the track to making waves in the pool, Jasa’s high school career reflects dedication, versatility, and passion. As she prepares for the next chapter, there is no doubt she will continue to rise, whether she is diving in or soaring over the bar.
