The Westside football team stayed unbeaten last Friday with a 29-21 win over Bellevue West. Senior kicker Everest Scherlezin played a key role in the victory, tying a school record with five field goals.
“I remember the game starting out really slow, but we got an early field goal and just kind of went forward from there,” Scherlezin said. “We kept the lead with consistent good snaps, good holds, and just splitting it through the uprights.”
Westside returns home this Friday to face seventh-ranked Omaha Central, which enters the matchup at 3-1. Scherlezin said he expects a competitive game.
“It should be a really good game,” he said. “We’re preparing really well and have had a great week so far.”
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Phelps Field. The student section theme is Western.
