Westside High School has officially opened its new Life Complex, a multi-million-dollar upgrade designed to increase academic, athletic, and wellness opportunities for students.
The project, funded through the Westside Foundation’s capital campaign, introduces several state-of-the-art additions, including a new sports medicine center, an expanded weight room, and a world-class competition pool. District leaders say the improvements are designed to give students top-tier resources both in and out of the classroom.
“Our new Life Complex is really bringing a lot of great new academic and athletic features to our students,” Director of Communications Elizabeth Powers said. “At the end of the day, we want to make sure we have the best facilities available for our students to achieve excellence.”
One of the largest upgrades is the new sports medicine wing, featuring expanded treatment rooms, updated recovery technology, and space for student athletic trainers to learn alongside professionals.
“It’s a beautiful facility with top-notch equipment,” Powers said. “Our athletes can come recover, train and be treated, and our student trainers get hands-on experience.”
The complex also includes a new Myrtha-built pool, manufactured and fabricated in Italy. The pool’s design reduces water turbulence, giving swimmers a faster, more efficient racing environment.
“Myrtha pools move water in a much more efficient way,” Powers said. “It allows our swimmers to face less resistance and hopefully break more records.”
Rounding out the upgrades is a redesigned performance and wellness center. The new weight room is roughly 50% larger than the previous space and includes additional racks, turf, platforms, and performance-tracking technology.
“We were smart in how we installed the equipment,” Powers said. “We were able to fit far more in the room and allow more students to use the space.”
Portions of the Life Complex are already being used by the swim team, wrestling team, and PE classes. The full facility is expected to open to all students in early December.
