Top-seeded Westside rolled past Kearney 35-7 last week, advancing to the Class A state semifinals behind a strong performance from sophomore quarterback Braylen Warren.
Warren threw two touchdown passes in the win and said the Warriors embraced the high-energy environment.
“They’re a good team and they came out with everything they had,” Warren said. “The stands were really hyped and loud, so it was a good experience and a good test for the next week.”
Westside will host Millard South on Friday at Phelps Field with a trip to the state championship on the line. The Patriots enter the matchup with one of the most talented rosters in the bracket, and Warren said the Warriors are preparing for a physical battle.
“We just have to come out physical and play like they haven’t been pushed in the mouth yet,” Warren said. “We’re going to come out, push them in the mouth and be prepared for a war.”
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Phelps Field.
