The third best ranked recruit in Nebraska in the class of 2027, Westside quarterback Braylen Warren made the announcement on Dec. 4, with a verbal commitment to Missouri. The current three star impressed tiger coaches during a spring practice visit in March and has garnered interest from all around the country with 17 division one offers from schools such as Iowa, Kansas State, Wisconsin and more, getting his first scholarship before his freshman year. Warren is currently listed as the 29th best quarterback in the nation and best quarterback prospect in Nebraska in the class of 2027 by both 247 sports and rivals. Warren explains his recruitment process.
“Missouri is probably the best place for me. I thought of running offense using the quarterback run and passing offense. It was a personal offense for me,” Warren said.
Warren has been the field general for Westside for the past two seasons helping lead the Warriors to a 22-3 record in the last two seasons including a state championship appearance in his sophomore season. During his freshman season he was the backup to current Notre Dame quarterback Anthony Rezac who played a role in his development into the player he is now.
Along with Rezac Braylen’s dad Steve Warren has also had a huge part in his development. Steve played football and won a national championship with Nebraksa between 1996-1999 including playing against Missouri when the Cornhuskers were a part of the big 12. Steve also played in the NFL for a few years with the Green Bay Packers, he now owns Warren Academy a prominent football training facility who has produced talent such as Kyle Duggar and Xavier Watts
“Having him was really big,” Warren said. “There was a lot of, like, I want to be your friend type stuff. And he just knows, like, what’s real, what’s free, what’s fake, and what to do and what to look for”
This season Warren passed for 1847 yards and 27 touchdowns to only six interceptions, he also tallied 288 yards and three touchdowns on the ground showing off his dual threat ability.
Under head coach Eli Drinkwitz the Tigers have been an under the radar team in the SEC going 52-32 through his five seasons there including back to back 10 win seasons and top 25 finishes capped off by bowl game wins. Drinkwitz has had a good track record with quarterbacks in his time at Missouri most recently turning three star Brady Cook into an NFL quarterback with the Jets, and under current quarterback Beau Pribula, Drinkwitz has led him to an increase in production from last year. Warren has also built a strong relationship with both offensive coordinator Kirby Moore and quarterbacks coach Sean Gleeson.
“They’re big on, like, calling me and texting me a lot and just kind of building that relationship,” Warren said. “Just like, keep in touch and, like, see how I was doing, and I like that a lot. Just know that, like, they do, like, care about me and my decision.”
Warren still has one year left to go at Westside and hopes to bring one more state championship back to Westside before he departs to Columbia, Warren will try to play a big part in Missouri’s continued success in the SEC and hopes to keep producing at the highest level of college football come time to leave Omaha.
