The Westside football team closed out the regular season with a 35-14 victory over Papillion-La Vista last week, clinching the No. 1 seed in the Class A state playoffs. Senior lineman Hudson Mead said earning home-field advantage was especially meaningful for the team.
“It means we get to play in front of our home crowd and on our own field,” Mead said. “There’s nothing better than playing at Phelps Field on a Friday night. That’s the best feeling in the world.”
Westside will open the postseason this Friday at home against Bellevue West. The Warriors previously defeated the Thunderbirds 29-21 in Week 5.
“It’s expected to be another tough game,” Mead said. “It was one of the closest games of the season. We know we can play better and we expect better results. They’re a good team, so we’re going to work hard in practice and bring it home.”
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at Phelps Field. The student section theme is costumes for Halloween weekend.
