Westside Invite Results in Multiple Records Broken

On Friday, January 31, and Saturday, February 1, Westside hosted the Westside Invitational swim meet. Westside’s girls and boys varsity swim teams competed against teams including Elkhorn/Elkhorn South, Grand Island, Omaha Central, Pius X, Marian High, and more. The girls were able to place second falling short to the Marian Crusaders with a score of 265 points. The boys won the meet in a close race against Elkhorn/Elkhorn South in which they beat their opponent by 5 points.

One of the factors for the boys’ team was Freshman, Nate Germonprez. Germonprez placed first in the 100-meter backstroke and in the 200 individual medley. He also placed first in the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay with his team. He broke multiple school records during the invitational. He broke the 200 individual medley record with a time of 1:54.46. The 200 medley relay team which Germonprez was part of broke the school record with a time of 1:36.93. He was also part of the 400 freestyle relay team which broke the school record for that event with a time of 3:14.61. Even with all his accomplishments already this season, Germonprez still has big hopes for this year.

“One goal I have coming up is to win State in the event or events I do,” Germonprez said. “And I want to win state as a team which would be a really great goal because we haven’t won for a while. Another goal I have would be to make the 2020 trails although that would be a lot harder to do, I think it is still reasonable.”
