On Saturday, December 7th, the girls and boys swim team raced in their first major invite at Burke. The girls team overall placed 3rd and the boys placed 2nd with amazing scores by the team. One individual that showed amazing performances was freshmen, Nate Germonprez.

“My motivation to keep swimming and growing as a teammate is that I know that I’m not only challenging myself to become a better swimmer but others as well,” Germonprez said. “When I found out I broke the meet record I was surprised because a lot of fast swimmers swam at this meet, but it’s cool to have my name on a record.”

Germonprez also says that he hopes to see others grow while he continues to improve and work up to his state events. Assistant coach Richard Rider believes that Nate is a high-level competitive swimmer that brings a lot to the team this year.

“Nate set two meet records, the 200 IM and 100 back,” Coach Rider said. “We have a ton of talent from top to bottom this year on the guys’ side, and it showed in a total team effort on Saturday.”

Germonprez, Freshman Kaden Guzman, Senior Thomas Lundin, and Sophomore Colin Davis also set a school record in the 200 medley relay. Coach Rider also says he looks to see more school records broken by both the girls and boys team.

“I believe Nate and the coaches have the same goal,” Coach Rider said. “Which is to continue to build on his strengths, fine-tune the details, and to continue to swim fast throughout the season.”

The coaches and swimmers both believe that the Burke Invite was overall a great success and shows a hopeful future in winning more meets and higher placings at state. Look for both the girls and boys next Invite at Ralston on December 13th and 14th.
