Westside senior volleyball player Jane Kubat just got 1,000 digs in her high school career. Our Westside volleyball team played an impressive game against Omaha Burke that led to Kubat’s 1,000th career dig.
It is easy to see that Kubat is very proud of herself but it is even easier to see that her team and her community may be even more proud. An accomplishment like this cannot be achieved without the help of others and Kubat is so grateful for her teammates and coaches.
“I just love this team so much. We talk really big on building a culture here at Westside and I couldn’t have done it without my teammates,” Kubat said.
1,000 career digs is not an easy achievement which shows how great of a player Kubat truly is. She is a good addition to our Westside team and it will be a huge loss after she graduates. An accomplishment like this requires consistency, discipline, and focus and Kubat definitely has all those things. Kubat has been with the Westside volleyball team since she was an underclassmen and has never stopped working hard for her spot. Head coach Andrew Wehrli talked about what it takes to get 1,000 career digs and how Kubat fits into that.
“Its tough. I mean you have to be starting as an underclassmen to get there and I mean I just think its really a testament of how consistent she has been just year after year after year,” Wehrli said.
Kubat fits perfectly in with this Wetside team and there is no doubt why she has been able to accomplish such great things. She is always working to improve and make herself better for her team which is one of the best qualities in a player. She understands what it takes to be a valuable player and executes those skills. The hard work she has put in can be seen when she is playing on the court and even off the court when she is supporting her teammates. Coach Wehrli talked about how impressive of a play Kubat is.
“Jane’s like, she fits perfectly in what I expect out of a libero. She’s super consistent, she’s good 90% of the time, she is exceptional 5% of the time and she makes errors 5% of the time,” Wehrli said. “And that’s actually an incredible proportion for a libero. I mean like she is the rock that our team is built on like her serve receive is great I think she’s been close to leading the state in serve receive score and the number of digs she has had over the last couple years is a lot which is pretty impressive.”
It is obvious that whoever takes her spot will have some big shoes to fill but with the help of the team they will do great. Jane has been such a vital player for the Westside volleyball team the past couple years it will be sad to see her go but we know her future is very bright. See Jane in action October 14 for a home game against Lincoln Pius X at 6:30.
