The Westside girls volleyball team’s season has come to an end after losing in the state semifinals to Papillion La Vista. The Warriors, who were led by senior Tatum Godinez, expressed that they had a great season and felt that they did all they could in the game against Papio.

“First I think we had a great season turnout. This team is very young and had only two people with experience playing at state so to be in the semis this year was pretty cool.” Godinez said.

After beating Grand Island in the first round of state, sophomore Madeline Lamb said how the team plans to play to their best ability to beat Papillion. Lamb had a total of 21 digs in the game and played a big role in advancing the team to the second round of state.

“I think we have a good chance at beating them and we just have to play at our best,” Lamb said.

Godinez has made many great memories at Westside and has grown as a person and player along the way. She will be attending the University of Sioux Falls next fall to play volleyball.

“Over the past four years at westside I think I have not only grown into a better player but a leader for my team. This year especially I learned a lot about how to help my team and gain their trust.” Godinez said. “Not by thinking about myself but pouring my love and trust into others. I love how hard those girls work and it makes me a better leader and person to be surrounded by them.”

The Westside Girls volleyball team has had an outstanding season and are going to come back next year stronger and better.
