Sisters work together on and off the court

The volleyball team has two talented sisters that work together on and off the court. Isabella, middle blocker and Madeline Lamb, outside hitter.

These two work hard to compete, and have a strong relationship which is key.

“We argue alot at home, but we get along very well on the court… I think it’s fun playing with my sister, we enjoy it.” Madeline said.

The sisters compliment each other really well, Isabella agrees with Madeline.

“My sister and I do everything together, we are very close in age so out of my other three siblings we have the best relationship,” Isabella said.  “Getting to play with her in high school has been really exciting and I love seeing her experience some things that  I got to do during my freshman and sophomore years.”

Having sisters on the same team has its perks, even Coach Wehrli seems to think so.

“One of the things that makes Madeline a special player is her consistency, her ability to limit errors, and her ability to create positive situation’s for her team,” Wehrli said. “Isabella is a great athlete too. She is a great blocker and creates great matchups for us because she hits great angles. She takes the feedback we give her and tries to use it right away.”

Both sisters are reaching for success this season. As a sophomore Madeline still has two more years playing for Westside, but this year is her last opportunity to compete alongside Isabella.

“My expectations for the season are to get better as a team, and we should hopefully make it to state,” Madeline said.

This is Isabella’s final year playing for Westside, her senior season is almost through and she wants to accomplish big things this season.

“I have pretty high expectations for this season, we got really far last year in state and I believe the team we have now is just as talented as the team we had,” Isabella said. “My senior year so far is everything I wanted it to be. I trust that our new coach will get us to where we want to be in the end.”

There are many new underclassmen that are new additions to the team. The future of the team is seemingly bright, but will also be challenging with many leaders of the team leaving.

“We have many leaders on the team now, but next year more people will have to step up,” Madeline said.

Isabella is confident that once her class has graduated the volleyball team will still continue to be a great team.

“There are a lot of juniors that are already starting so once the seniors are gone I think the team is still going to be running strong with talent,” Isabella said. “I love the team that me and the other seniors have built these past four years and the expectations we’ve set for years to come after us.”

The team will battle next against Bryan High on Sept. 14.
