Preview: Warrior Skirmish Against Spartans

The Westside Warriors will face off against Lincoln East Spartans in the quarter finals of the playoffs. Westside is coming off a dominant 45-3 win against Grand Island. While Lincoln East is rolling after a 42-0 shutout against North Platte. Junior Quarterback Kolby Brown said that it’s do or die time and they will be focusing on each game one at a time.

“At the end of the day, we still have to line up and go play football, no matter what the records are between the two of us.” Brown said.

Westside is undefeated with a record of 9-0. Their upcoming opponent Lincoln East is 7-2.  The Spartans are rolling on both sides of the football.  Westside has to continue their dominance on both sides to advance to the next round. To get to this position, Westside’s chemistry and execution has improved greatly since the start of the season.

“A big improvement that our team has made is our chemistry together. At the beginning of the season, none of us really had that trust and confidence that we have in each other now,” sophomore safety, Ty Kiefer said “I also think that we have gotten better at our skills also. Just going to practice everyday and working on our craft throughout the season has definitely been showing on the field and will continue to show as we go further in the playoffs.”

The Lincoln East offense has been putting up big numbers lately. Recently putting up 56 and 42 points in their last two games. On the other side, the Westside defense has made it very difficult for other offenses to get points. Westside has kept their last two opponents to three and six points. Something will have to give between the two sides. To go in Westside’s way, defensive coordinator Justin Haberman says it comes down to executing coverage and being disciplined.

“They have a very talented quarterback that can sling the ball around. We have to be good in our coverage and disciplined in what we do. If we do that then we will be just fine,” Haberman sai.

Westside is set to take on the Lincoln East Spartans in the quarter finals of the playoffs on Friday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. at Phelps field.
