Senior Jack Bush attempts a field goal last week against Omaha Creighton Prep.

The latter half of the season is upon us. The leaves start to turn to colors, the t-shirts and shorts head to the drawer and the thermometer starts to become negligible of what anything above 70º is.

But most importantly, there’s district football to be played. Tonight the Warrior varsity football will host the Omaha Northwest Huskies, at Phelps Field in their second district game of the season. The Huskies have a 1-4 record so far this year and have struggled on the offensive side of the ball, scoring 44 points and averaging 149 yards per game. After the big rival win against a top ten team, the Warriors want to focus on not having a “Prep hangover.”

“[This week] is more about improving us,” Coach Brett Froendt said. “Making sure we keep the momentum going that we established last week and not looking at our success and pounding are chest about it.”

The Warrior offense is the seventh best scoring offense in Class A this year and has allowed the fifth least points while already facing up against two of their four top ten matchups this year. Junior Ben Radicia said he feels confident in being able to continue the output they have come up with this year.

“We just need to execute at a high level,” Radicia said. “It doesn’t really matter who our opponent is. We just need to keep our head down and do what we do.”

Northwest’s gameplan throughout this year has been mainly rushing averaging just over 94 rushing yards per game. The main factor with their rushing attack ismsenior running back Aliziah Wraggs who is averaging 91 of their 94 yards per game this year. Froendt said he feels his defensive line can stay with the Senior running back and

“Our defensive line is doing a better job of filling in the gaps and being in the gaps they are responsible for,” Froendt said. “It really does rely on them every play to start the process of our defense being able to execute.”

The Warriors will start tonight’s game at Phelps field at 7 PM on Friday, October 4, 2019.
