The girls bowling team put together an impressive season defined by growth resilience and a strong team bond. Finishing with a 20-8 record heading into the state tournament and earning a well deserved trip to state competition. Head coach Keith Schneider said the team accomplished more than many expected after graduating several key contributors from last year’s lineup.
“We lost three starters from last year, including our top bowler,” Schneider said. “I knew we had some good girls and experience coming back, but to get massive wins against top teams, earn a wildcard and make it to state was amazing.”
Despite early uncertainty, the team quickly proved it could compete with anyone. Their confidence grew as the season progressed, especially during their redemption tour where they defeated teams that had beaten them earlier in the year.
“The biggest highlight for me was beating Millard South and handing them their only loss before state,” Schneider said. “That was a statement win for us and helped show the girls there was nobody they couldn’t beat.”
The team showed resilience throughout the whole season, bouncing back from losses to earn revenge against multiple opponents, including Marian, Millard West, and Pius. Rather than letting defeats linger, the athletes used each challenge as motivation to improve.
“They never let any team that beat them once get in their head,” Schneider said. “ They maintained a fun attitude, worked hard and got several redemptions throughout the season.”
While performance on the lanes stood out, one of the team’s biggest challenges came off the lanes building chemistry among athletes who had not competed before. With a mix of returning varsity players, former JV bowlers, a newcomer and a freshman, the team needed time to develop trust and connection.
“This group really had to get to know each other as the season went on,” Schneider said. “They did a great job creating celebrations, playing games, and just having fun together.”
That positive energy ultimately became the defining characteristics of the season. According to Schneider, the team’s success came from balancing competitiveness with enjoyment, something not every talented team manages to do.
“Our coaching mantra is that everyone will get better and have fun doing it,” Schneider said. “They had the drive to improve and win, but never in the absence of fun. Watching them bond and enjoy the season made it special.”
Although the program will graduate several key athletes, the culture established this season leaves a strong foundation moving forward. The team’s blend of talent, resilience and joy created a memorable year that will stand out as one of the program’s most meaningful seasons.
