The Warrior girls wrestling team recently competed at Bellevue East for the Metro Conference Tournamnet and swept the competition. They had four champions and nine athletes that placed in the top five to earn the Warriors their third straight Metro champions title.
They faced some tough competition but pushed through and took the tournament from several other Omaha metro wrestling teams. Senior Addeline Graser battled through sickness and won the 155 division. Junior Gabriell Price gave it her all on the mat and took her division in the 120 weight class. Along with those two, the Warriors had multiple top 5 placers and showed why they are one of the best girls wrestling teams in class A. Head coach Bob Mulligan shared his feelings about the team earning this title.
“It feels awesome,” Mulligan said. “It just showcases the hardwork and dedication the girls put in every single day!”
Graser had an impressive performance winning all four of her matches and ending with 16 points. She pushed through all of her matches despite coming back from being sick and proved to everyone that she is the best in the state. So far this year, Graser has a record of 34-4 and has a bonus win percentage of 97%. She is having an amazing season and wants to keep that going. Graser explained her ongoing goals for the season.
“Something I will keep working on as season continues is just being more aggressive in matches and pushing myself harder in practice for when state comes I’m ready for it,” Graser said.
Price also had an amazing performance going 4-0 and ending with 16 points to take the 120 division. Price has a record of 32-9 this season and a bonus percentage of 97%. Price is a very promising wrestler seeing how new she is to the sport. She didn’t start wrestling until her freshman year but she has improved tremendously getting her to where she is now as a junior. Price shared her feelings about becoming a metro champion.
“I’m happy that I accomplished something so big because I haven’t wrestled for even 5 years and I know I’ve grown a lot and couldn’t have done it without the right coaches,” Price said.
This win by the Warriors proves that they are out for blood and will do whatever it takes to earn a state title this year. They have been putting in the work all season and it is definitely showing at their meets. Coach Mulligan talked about how the title will impact their team.
“Obviously winning Metros is an amazing accomplishment but we want more, District and State championships is what we’re after,” Mulligan said.
The Warriors have state duals on Friday January 23 so be sure to stay tuned for those results.
