The Westside bowling teams are entering their second season as a sanctioned sport by the Nebraska School Activities Association. Last year the Westside boys team finished fifth in the district tournament. The Warrior girls team ended the season as the runner-up in district play. Westside head coach Bob Sullivan hopes to show progress this season.

I’m hoping that our boys team can show improvement this year and the experience our new additions have can help make the team better,” Sullivan said. “The girls team I’m hoping can make the state tournament as a team. The most important thing this team needs to have success is confidence in themselves.”

The Westside girls team is off to a winning start with an 18-3 win over Omaha Marian on Dec. 2. Westside senior Anna Snodgrass is a returning varsity player, who is optimistic about her final season.

“I am hoping that our team will be able to qualify for state this season,” Snodgrass said. “We have a lot of talent and should be able to perform to that level. I also hope that we will overall see a lot of improvement over this season and will be able to work well together as a team in baker games along with working well individually in our traditional games.”

Snodgrass is coming off a spectacular season on the Westside volleyball team, where she helped lead the Warriors to the semifinals of the state tournament. Snodgrass hopes to be a leader on the bowling alley this season.

“This is my second year bowling for Westside and I am one of the few returning players on varsity,” Snodgrass said. “I am a role model for those who are younger than me. I plan to continue to work hard and do whatever I can to help the team no matter my title.”

The next match for the Westside boys and girls bowling teams will be against Papillion-LaVista South on Thursday, Dec. 9.
