The Westside girls golf team competed at the district tournament, with a trip to the state tournament on the line, on Oct. 4th. The team finished second, punching their ticket to the state tournament.

In addition to a second-place team finish, senior Kaitlyn Hanna finished second individually, shooting a 69 on the day.

“I was able to make some good birdies, and had some big up-and-downs for par to stay in the hunt,” Hanna said, including a 15-foot putt for par on hole 18, which allowed me to tie.”.

Sophomore Madie Schlegel also performed well at the district tournament, shooting an 87 on the day.

“I feel like I could have done a lot better, but at the same time I’m really proud of myself and the whole team, because placing second in districts is really tough,” Schlegel said.

After a great performance at the district tournament, the team is now focusing on this week’s state tournament. WHS head coach Barry Glanzer said what he is looking for going into the state tournament.

“Good experience, we have a lot of young girls there, and this is a new venue for them playing in the state tournament,” he said. “I want them to do the best they can and our goal is to finish in the top five,”

Hanna said she is looking for her third state championship in four years at Westside.

“In every tournament I play, my goal is to always win,” she said. “The  good thing is I have a great history at state so I am feeling good.”

The WHS girls golf team competed in the state tournament today, Monday, Oct. 11 and tomorrow, Oct. 12, at the Norfolk Country Club starting at 9 a.m.
