Westside School Board Recognizes Two Westside Students at Monday Meeting

From Des Moines, Iowa, to Harvard University, Westside students are going national. This summer, Westside rising sophomores Jad Musa Haddadin and Claire Wing earned recognizable feats in their hobbies, and Westside communications director Brandi Paul presented them to the Westside Board of Education on Monday.

Haddadin placed first in July’s Cornhusker State Games taekwondo competition, qualifying him for the 2021 national competition in Des Moines. He told the Board of Education on Monday that a lot of hard work built him to be the mixed martial artist that he is today.

“I remember my master letting me spar the black belts,” he said. “They would kick my butt.”

Wing was honored shortly after Haddadin for her participation in Harvard’s summer pre-med program. She told that the Board of Education that the experience led her to meet a lot of new people.

“I met some people from Switzerland and Russia,” Wing said. “They were all super smart.”
