Yeah, Yeah We Got Spirit?

Last Friday there was a football game. Westside verse Prep in the quarterfinals for state. The student section was overflowing, to the point of students sitting on the ground. The student section was strong.

Rewind to a volleyball game this past season. There were a few parents in the crowd and no student section at all. We should all be proud to be warriors, correct? Many staff and students, myself included, think the lack of school spirit is an issue. It seems as if students  only support the big games. Many supported the playoff games for football but few showed up for the district volleyball tournament. What about the other sports and activities that want their support from the school?

There is more than just sports that happen at our school. There are the show choirs and choirs, speech and debate, DECA events, art exhibits, and so many more. Our school should not only be supporting the sports but other events that students participate in as well. When these events are hosted at Westside, more students should come to support their school.

It seems many high schoolers only care about football games. The red shield was created to increase school spirit. Yes there has been  increase in spirit, but only at the football games. If this club was created to increase school spirit then it should not only be focusing on football games. There should be more of the student body attending a variety of sports and activities. Branch off and go support your school.
