Parent Teacher Conferences

Every year during parent teacher conferences I see kids being dragged through the hallways with a look on their face saying “I would rather be anywhere but here.” Every semester it’s the same thing. Kids spend enough time in school, do they really need to be dragged to school to listen to their teachers tell them what they tell them at school?

Parent/teacher conferences are called parent/teacher conferences for a reason. They are supposed to be between your parents and teachers. Students get class time with their teachers to talk about expectations. There is no need for students to get a lecture from their teachers about their grades after school hours when that can be done during school.

From a teachers perspective I don’t think that they enjoy conferences with students and parents either. Every year I hear teachers complaining about conferences. Why would they want to stay at school until 9 p.m. sitting at a desk having the same conversation over and over again? It is much trouble for the teachers as it is for students.

So why do parents still drag their children to conferences? It baffles my mind to think that some parents make their children go to conferences when it is not required, especially because students have access to powerschool. Students can check their grades anytime and go to their teachers for help during school. So what is the point of conferences? Some would say so your parents can get updated on their kids progress. Well news flash everyone, parents can log on to powerschool too.

Every year in my house there is a constant battle between my parents and I about parent teacher/conferences. Apparently it is a big deal to them for me to attend. I, on the other hand, see no interest in going. If my parents think it’s that good to go to conferences then they should be content with going without me. So I ask you this, are parent teacher conferences worth going to?
