A seventh grade boy named Noah Brocklebank apparently threatened suicide in an instagram post and received thousands of letters from strangers telling him not to give up hope. He posted a photo of his cut up arm on instagram in January along with the caption, “Day of scheduled suicide, February 8th, 2013, my birthday.” According to yahoo.com, Noah claims that he felt like everything was worthless and that his life was terrible. After the post on Instagram, Noah was hospitalized for depression and anxiety. His mother started a Facebook page soliciting letters for Noah’s 13th birthday.
His mother stated that Noah had been dealing with bullying for the past year. He had began to feel alone and left out. When she opened a P.O. box for the letters, she got thousands of them. She even received one from Antarctica. “It had restored my faith in humanity,” she told CBS. A website entitled lettersfornoah.com continues to collect messages of support.
This type of story makes me smile. It really shows that even though there are many who bully, there are even more who are uplifting and willing to help someone through a tough time. In the news and the paper there are many stories that talk about the bad in people or it talks about things that are wrong in society. Seeing a small story like this can brighten someones day.
