The Westside girls basketball team will rematch Omaha North in a game this Saturday Feb. 6. Last time these teams met was in the metro tournament where the Vikings beat the warriors 73-44. This game took place on Dec 31. Since then the girls have won a couple of key games and have been preparing in practice to beat the Vikings this go around.
Coach Steve Clark and his staff have been preparing the girls for this game. They know the game will be aggressive, but they also believe the girls have full capability to win the game.
“We are anticipating a very fast, physical game that will probably have some momentum shifts throughout the game,” Clark said.
The girls took a tough loss last time they played Omaha North. With this nerves are high since this is an important game. The girls have improved immensely in about 30 days and are ready for the game the vikings will bring at them.
Coach Clark says there are always some nerves but they are motivated to win the game.
“The girls are excited for the game,” Clark said “They definitely are motivated to show the improvement from the last time we played them,” Clark said.
Offensively and Defensively the girls have goals to reach during the game. They have already anticipated a tough game, and have to keep the right mindset throughout the whole game.
Coach Clark talks about composure that the girls will have to keep, he stresses this because the north girls are tough.
“We will need to keep our composure and continue to compete for 4 full quarters,” Clark said.
The properties will stay the same for this game as any game. Make as many rebounds as possible, limit turnovers, and have possession of most of the time. The girls have been putting in the work during practice to have success. Coach Clark talks about all of these things that will positively affect the game to go their way.
“They have been practicing really well, and will be ready to go,” Clark said “It will be a game where we have to compete for rebounds, and really take care of the ball to limit turnovers and easy baskets for North. Those are similar priorities for all of our games, just need to step it up a bit when playing North,” Clark said.
Good games and good players stem from a good coaching staff. The girls basketball team has an excellent staff which has led them to great success. For the upcoming game vs Omaha North the westside coaching staff has been putting in time to prepare themselves so they are able to guide the girls in the right direction. Coach Clark talks about what they have been doing to be ready.
“As coaches, we have to put in time watching films and making simple adjustments so the girls can play freely and not be thinking too much,” Clark said.
The girls will have to compete to win the game against North, this has already been established. The team knows that it will be packed, but that they also need to stay focused. Coach Clark explains the main goals to make sure they win.
“It’s going to be a loud, chaotic game, and the girls will need to be continually communicating with each other to stay on the same page,” Clark said.
The Omaha North game is not just the top of the priorities for the girls basketball team. The rest of the season is still ahead for them. Coach Clark talks about what the rest of the season looks like and what they hope to accomplish.
“We have four games left before districts start and need to keep taking it one game at a time to give us a chance to host districts,” Clark said
