Nebraska high school basketball was gifted with a round two of the Westside and Creighton Prep rivalry, in which the Warriors went into the Birdcage and fought their way to a 64-60 win in an overtime thriller. The Warriors were led by Emre Gedik with 17 points, five rebounds and five steals to round out the Juniors performance. Lee Robinson continued to show out for Westside, the freshman racked up 16 points, six rebounds and four assists.
“We practiced hard for the last week and got better at what they do,” Gedik said. “We got good at it and defended it well and killed it.”
This is now the second straight season the Warriors have won twice vs the Junior Jays. The Warriors have now won seven of the last eleven matchups, including the last four. The last loss Westside had to Creighton Prep was January 24, 2024. Head coach Jim Simons said it took a lot to pull out with both wins.
“We found a way to score a couple more points than they had both times we played,” Simons said. “It’s two very evenly matched teams. Both games were down to the wire, and we were fortunate enough to make a play here or there, or make a shot here or there, and in both games.”
Westside is now 15-2 and is ranked in the top three. The Warriors only losses are to Papillion La Vista South.
