Junior Harrison Kreiling is the starting catcher on the 2019 team.

The Westside varsity baseball team’s season has been up and down through 21 games of the season, but they have managed to make it out 5 games over .500 with a 13-8 record. Westside has also earned a ranking of ninth in the Class A state rankings via the Omaha World-Herald. Head Coach Bob Greco said he feels the season has gone well for the team so far.

“The season has gone pretty good. We’re getting better. We are continuing to improve a little bit. We want to be playing our best baseball at the end of the season,” Greco said. “We have had some injuries which has led to a lot of guys playing that wouldn’t have gotten to so I think everyone is getting better.”

Greco said the teams defense has been making too many errors they don’t usually make and that the defense has been letting the team down. Greco hopes to help the team fix those errors and make sure the team is at their top form for the state tournament.

“We’re always setting our goal to win state. We may not be good enough to win it right now but that doesn’t mean we won’t be in two weeks, so we just have to keep getting better,” Greco said.

Westside will compete in this weekend’s DK Invite at Millard South beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
