Orchestra Performs Annual “Flash Mob Concert” In Landing
In the weeks approaching the holiday season, Westside High School Orchestra instructor Lanny Stutheit leads the ensemble in an annual “flash mob concert” located in the landing. The annual concert was performed at around 11:45 a.m. this morning, Thursday, Dec. 12. This concert consists of many different orchestra members as well as types of instruments.
“Some time before finals weeks it works out [that the orchestra] can get in the landing and play,” Stutheit said. “[Some of the music performed] is music we have practiced all year or [new music] we are learning.”
According to Stutheit, several of the orchestra members have been nervous about performing in a setting such as the landing but it is easier for the older students who have been in the program longer.
“We’ve done the [landing concert] for the past four or five years,” Stutheit said. “Typically [the concert] goes pretty well.”
Freshman Lucy Holan is a new member of the orchestra felt it was interesting to play in a setting such as the landing.
“I liked [the concert] because there were people surrounding [the orchestra] on all sides so everybody [in the audience] could get a view,” Holan said. “[At the concert] you could tell that everyone there was interested [in watching] and weren’t forced to be there.”
