Math IMC Introduces New Phone Policy

Rules, Rules, Rules. Throughout the school, the basic rules students have had to follow are be safe, be respectful, and be responsible.  The math IMC has come up with an additional rule that students can not be on cell phones during open mods.

“I feel it’s fair because in France you can’t even have a cellphone in school so I think that it is a nice compromise. The expectation for Math IMC is for an academic use only,” said, Michelle Hinde, the educational assistant for the math IMC.

Teachers are generally supportive of the no-phone rule.

“I like it, I think phones are distractions so I feel having the no phone rule [is good],” said math teacher Jack Sortino. “I think a lot of students get a lot more done when they are not stuck to their cell phone; In the math IMC we are all for it, as teachers.”

At least one student sees the issue differently.

“I hate it because sometimes you have no homework to do and they will expect you to just sit there and do nothing,” said junior Zita Tchapo. “When and if you want to use your phone they will tell you to leave. This affects the hallways, then the bouncers will find you and tell you to go to an IMC.”
