The girls and boys basketball teams have not been to the state tournament in the same year since 2007. The boys have a chance to change that when they visit Bellevue West in the A-5 district champion. Westside, who holds an 11-12 record heading into the game, will look to flip the script on what has been a rollercoaster of a season.
The Warriors are 1-1 against the Thunderbirds this season after they dropped a 81-66 decision at home and snagged a 55-54 win in the Metro Tournament by way of a late three pointer from Jadin Booth. Because of these games, Bellevue West is leading Westside 135-121 in the season series. Jadin Booth and Chase Thompson, who average a combined 36.6 points per game, will look to lead the Warriors to a state tournament spot.
Trying to shut the Warriors down will be a Bellevue West team that has gone to Lincoln 15 times in their school history. The Thunderbirds are led by 6’2” guard Cedric Johnson with 16.4 points and six rebounds per game, but he scored just five in the 82-54 win over North Platte. Bellevue West was led in that game by forward Tevin Tanner who scored 20 points on 9 of 14 shooting.
Westside is 1-4 in their last five visits with Bellevue West, and they’ll look to tack on one in the win column at 7 p.m. on Monday, February 26, 2018, at Bellevue West.
