Photo Gallery/RECAP: Warriors Escape Thunderbolts in First Round of Playoffs

The Westside varsity football team hosted the Lincoln Pius X Thunderbolts Friday night in the first round of the playoffs Friday night. Led by 15 fourth quarter points, Westside held off the Thunderbolts by a score of 43-39.

After an 87 yard touchdown return to open the kickoff from freshman Avante Dickerson to put the Warriors up 7-0, the ball got rolling for both teams. Forty-two combined points were scored in the first half, and the teams were tied at 21 at halftime. Pius’s run-first offense chewed up a lot of clock in the second half, but that didn’t stop the Westside offense from finding the end zone.

Westside returns to action in round two of the playoffs at number one seed Kearney on Friday, November 3, 2017, at 7 p.m.
