Weekend in Review
Another weekend gone, and another weekend of success for Westside athletics.
Cross country competed at Walnut Grove in the Millard West Invitational, Friday. Due to meet limits for runners, few boys varsity runners competed. On the girls side, junior Marta Hailu placed 11th and the team finished fourth overall.
The Volleyball team competed in the Lincoln Northeast tournament over the weekend to kick things off. They started in pool play with a win against Lincoln Pius X 2-1, then a loss to North Platte 2-1. To end pool play they beat Norfolk 2-1 and moved on to the bracket portion on Saturday. They started out with a loss to Elkhorn South, then another win against Pius, but ultimately lost their final game to get sixth overall.
Friday night the 3-2 football team took on Burke at home. Though they won 39-31, the game was much closer than anticipated. Senior Alex Lindquist set a school record, though, as he had four receiving touchdowns, helping push the Warriors to the finish line.
Finally, softball played in the Millard South invitational on Saturday. They faced Lincoln Southwest, then Millard South and finally Central. Unfortunately, the team couldn’t pull out a victory in the games. The team plays in the district tournament Thursday, time TBA.
Upcoming Games: Girls district golf 10/6, Volleyball at Lincoln Southeast 10/6, Boys metro tennis 10/7, girls golf @ Millard South 10/7
