PREVIEW: Girls soccer first round rematch

The Westside Girl’s soccer team advanced to the state tournament following their district win over Columbus.

Now, the six seeded warriors Warriors play the three seeded Marian Crusaders in the first round of the state tournament at Morrison Stadium May 14 at 3 p.m. Westside has made the state tournament for the past two seasons, losing in the first round both times. Head Coach Nathan Moseley knows beating the defending state champs will be no easy task.

“Last Year Marian was by far the favorite,” Moseley said. “They had the most talent, they should have won it and they did. This year I could see any of the games go either way.”

Westside played away against Marian on April 21. The Warriors lead 1-0 most of the game before giving up an own goal late and losing 5-4 in penalty kicks.

“I think the girls know they should have won it and are hungry to prove it.” Moseley said.

The Warriors will have their chance to get even, with a semifinal spot on the line.

The winner advances to play the winner of Lincoln Southeast vs. Lincoln Southwest, with the semi-final May 16.
