50 Shades of Grey: Worth the Read?

50 Shades of Grey: Worth the Read?

As I sat down with the oh so controversial book, I had to prepare myself. I was excited to see what all the hype was about. As soon as I started the book it didn’t take me much longer to finish.

Many people were quick to judge from the start. I was not influenced by the opinions of most, I was going to read the book because I wanted to.

I don’t think it was the great writing that got me through the book so fast, nor the repetitive intimate adult scenes. But in fact it was the strange relationship between the two main characters that got me intrigued. Now if you don’t know much about the infamous 50 Shades of Grey, the book is about a dominate/submissive relationship and how that relationship evolves. My first response to the book was not the same as most of the critical readers out there. I thought that the book was an interesting read. It was fun to read because of how different it was. I enjoyed learning about the different type of relationship that I hadn’t been exposed to before.

Let’s just say that I was shocked at first. That kind of relationship in the book is not normal, it’s very demeaning to women and is an abusive relationship. When reading the book the one thing you have to remember is that the relationship is not normal. The relationship is not a good example to women and anyone that wants to read the book. However the relationship was interesting to learn about because I had never heard about a BDSM (Bondage, Discipline, sadism and masochism) relationship before.

But as I soon come to realize that the book does change paths, and not to give too much away but the relationship changes and Anastasia changes Christian for the good. Now there are a lot of people out there that say this book is just porn and is a really bad influence for younger people to be reading. Every teenager is not oblivious to what sex is. Before reading the book you just have to know that the relationship is not normal.

I think that the book was an interesting read, it’s quick and easy to get through. The writing was sub-par but you learn about a not so normal relationship that interesting to learn about. If your worried about the book being a bad influence you just need to start the book with no expectations. You need to understand that the relationship is not normal.
