For the second straight year, team “Big Defense” has won the Powder Buff tournament. The team defeated the other senior team, Team 1, and the winner of the junior bracket, Team Tude.

The team’s first game was against the other senior team. The game went all three sets with Big Defense winning the first set with a little controversy. The scoreboard may or may not have been wrong during the last part of the first set.

But controversy or not, Big Defense moved on to the championship round.

The Championship round was met with a huge crowd, as juniors outnumbered seniors in size, but not volume. As chants of “Senior Sweep” and “Let’s go seniors” rained down from the crowd, the game was played with ferocity from both sides.

Whether it was senior Max Petersen crashing into the pads on the back wall of the gym, or any number of players diving on the floor with no regard for their personal health, one thing was clear: neither team would settle for second place. But one team had to. This year it was the juniors. The seniors won in straight sets, 25-22 and 25-21, although both games looked as if they could go either way.

After the final point, the seniors rushed the court to celebrate with the team that had started what seniors hope will be a “Senior Sweep.”

The final act of the night was the senior class singing “Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye” to the losing junior team.

This was the first activity of Homecoming week. Make sure to check out the volleyball game tomorrow, parade Wednesday, Powder Puff Thursday, and the Homecoming football game Friday, before the dance Saturday.
