This is the first story in our series of previews for all of the fall sports. We will be posting one a day until we’ve covered each sport.

The girls golf season is already under way. With head coach Barry Glanzer, the team is looking to go to state this year.

Varsity roster: There are three returning varsity player with the addition of Junior Anna Erixon this year. There were about 12 freshman that joined the team this year, which will be helpful for future seasons. No. 1: Clair Selby No. 2: Claire Nelson No. 3: Lindsay McCormick No. 4: Anna Erixon No. 5: Subject to change

Keys for success: Golf is a hard sport to perfect. The team practices every day after school working improve its skills.”Take it one shot at a time and stay focused,” junior Lindsay McCormick said. “We are going to do more up and downs as the season progresses,” head coach Barry Glanzer said.

Goals for the season: The end goal of the season for the girls is to make it to state. This also means that throughout all the tournaments leading up to state, the team must do well. “The goal is to make it to state,” head coach Barry Glanzer said. “I am looking for consistency and improvement on short game this season.” The team will have to start the season off good in order to prepare for state. “I want all of the girls to medal and to achieve our personal goals,” junior Anna Erixon said.

Important tournaments: The district rankings are based off the first tournaments in the season. If the team were to do well in the first couple of tournaments, then the chances of getting a easy district will increase. Also, the Warrior Invite, hosted at Platteview Country Club, is an important tournament for the girls.

Challenges: The weather is unpredictable this time of year, especially for a sport where weather changes ball flight. The weather can range from scorching hot to freezing cold, and everything in between. “We have some issues getting everyone motivated before tournaments, and that is something that we need to overcome this season,” junior Claire Nelson said.

Last Season: The team placed fifth at districts last year and did not make it to state. Last year’s districts were played at Tiburon Golf Club. Throughout the season the team placed at several tournaments with many individual girls placing as well.
