Although the girls soccer team has moved down in the rankings in the paper, that doesn’t mean they don’t still have the same goal in mind.

Varsity girls soccer player senior Lauren Griffin thinks they still have room to improve.

“I think we are having an awesome season so far and I’m excited for the next games to see where it can take us,” Griffin said.

In the past week, the girls have faced No. 7 ranked Papillion-La Vista along with last year’s state champion No. 3 Millard West.

During the Papillion-La Vista game, soccer player junior Michelle Xiao was able to put two goals in for the team (one per half). Followed by Xaio’s goals, Kellen Dobry scored to give the Warriors a 3-0 lead. Papillion scored during the second half, but the Warriors came out with a 3-1 win.

The Millard West game was tougher for the Warriors.

“We are disappointed with the outcome of the game against Millard West, but we need to move forward and realize that we have to play our hardest for every game,” Griffin said.

Six minutes into the game, the Wildcats scored. In the second half, they tacked on two more. The Warriors lost 3-0.

The Warriors are now 8-5 on the season.

Junior Leah Miller explained the team’s reaction to the loss.

“I know that we were all really disappointed with the outcome and how we played during the Millard West game,” Miller said. “I think it was a wakeup call for a lot of us that we need to start bringing our top game every time we play so that we can get the outcome that we deserve”

The team will move on the play in a tournament at Millard South Thursday and Friday. Their opponents and time they will play are still to be determined.

“Its really important that we work hard together as a team in practice and during our last couple games because we have districts and state coming up so soon” Miller says.
