Senior Marie Mathews and Junior Jay Bridgeman go up for a loose ball of the board. The Warriors took the win against the Central Eagles 60-52.

The Westside Girls basketball team is back to their winning ways. It is currently on a three game winning streak after a loss away at Fremont. The team defeated Omaha Central, Omaha South, and Omaha North during the win streak. The team’s record is sitting at 11-7 after the win streak.

The first game of the win streak was an away game at Central. Central was ranked No. 7 in Class A going into the game. Westside was able to get big boosts from junior Jay Bridgeman, who had 17 points, and senior Mallory Thompson who had 16 points. Bridgeman was able to score 17 even though she battled through an injury that occurred in the first quarter. Westside was able to win 60-52.

On Saturday the Warriors took on a young but talented Omaha South team. The game proved to be a challenge without Bridgeman, who was out with a knee injury. South put up a good fight, eventually taking the game to overtime. The Warriors were able to put the game away winning by a score of 76-71. The team was led by Thompson with 17 points. It also got big performances from senior Rachel Kaup, 16, Marie Matthews, 11, and Shannen Pickering, 11.

Last night, it was a slow night for the offenses in the game against Omaha North. Bridgeman was able to return from her injury, and provided a boost in points and rebounds. Bridgeman finished with 13 points and 19 rebounds. The game ended with a score of 42-24 in favor of the Warriors.

This week the Warriors take on the Burke Bulldogs on Saturday, Omaha Marion on Tuesday, and Lincoln High on Thursday.

Prediction:

Westside Wired Predicts the Warriors will win 2 votes to 1 against Burke: Burke is a good team, but Westside is a different team with Jay Bridgeman playing. Bridgeman was able to put up 13 points and 19 rebounds against North, and she should be able to dominate against Burke. The Warriors will take this win.

Westside Wired Predicts the Warriors will win 2 votes to 1 against Marian: It’s a rivalry game, which means it will be close. Rivalries are always tough had fought battles, and this one will be no different. The Warriors are a better team than Marian, and have an inside presence that Marian will have a hard time to Match. Westside wins a close one this time.

Westside Wired Predicts the Warriors will win 3 votes to 0 against Lincoln High: If we are right, the Warriors are in for a big week. They are talented enough to win all three games, however three games in a week is a lot. Westside Wired thinks the Warriors will be able to win all three games.
