The Warriors Girls basketball team is coming off one of the toughest weekends it will face all year. On Friday night the Warriors took on the Bellevue West Thunderbirds at home. Unranked Westside gave the third ranked Thunderbirds all they could handle, but the Thunderbirds came away with a 53-43 win. Westside had no answer for Chloe Akin-Otiko, who put up 20 points. The Thunderbirds also got big games from Kate Liveringhouse, who had 15, and Madi Braun, who had 14. Westside was led by junior Jay Bridgeman with 15, and senior Marie Matthews with 13.

Saturday the Warriors had an away game against No. 5 Fremont. Fremont features one of the best players in the state, Jessica Shepard. Shepard put on a display, en route to 31 points against the Warriors. Fremont won in blowout fashion 72-37. The Warrior offense couldn’t get going, and the highest scorer, Mallory Thompson, had 6. Matthews also had 6 for the Warriors.

Bridgeman still leads the team with 13.9 points per game. Matthews is second with 10.4 points per game. Bridgeman also leads with 7.8 rebounds per game and Rachel Kaup is second with 5.8 rebounds per game. Mallory Thompson is leading in assists per game with 3.

This weekend the road to the state tournament doesn’t get any easier. The team takes on No. 7 Central and Omaha South. The team is 9-7 heading into the weekend.

Game Predictions

Westside Wired Predicts the Warriors will win 2 votes to 1 against Omaha Central: Central is not as good as they have been in the past, and after a tough weekend the Warriors will bounce back. The guard play will be the difference in this game, and Westside will come away with the win.

Westside Wired Predicts the Warriors will win 3 votes to 0 against Omaha South: Westside will be too much for south to handle. The team will ride momentum from the Central game and escape the weekend with a 2-0 record.
