Boys Basketball Recap: Jan. 24 through Jan. 30
In the Warriors lone game this past week, the Warriors sent North Platte on a four hour drive home with the taste of defeat, as Westside got the win 75-46.
North Platte got an early lead in the first quarter, but the Warriors were able to get North Platte’s star player senior Drew Callaghan into foul trouble, neutralizing him for most of the first half. The Warriors proceeded to build a lead behind seniors Kevin Metoyer (14.9 ppg, 4.9 ag), Michael Herrmann (15.6 ppg, 5.4 rpg) and Mike Kiger (12.1 ppg, 4.7 rpg).
Herrmann found himself in foul trouble during the second quarter, but the Warriors were able to continue mounting a lead and never looked back.
Metoyer finished with 20 points and six assists, Herrmann finished with 15 and Kiger finished 14 for the Warriors. Senior Shane Mauch finished with 19 points and Callaghan finished with 14 for North Platte.
With the win, the Warriors move to 10-4 on the season and into sixth in the Omaha World Herald rankings, while North Platte drops to 8-7.
Up this week for the Warriors is Bellevue West at Westside at 7:15 p.m. tonight, then Fremont at Fremont at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 31.
Bellevue West is 12-3 on the season, and ranked fifth in Class A. Bellevue West is led by 6 foot guard junior Malik Hluchoweckyj, who is averaging 14.3 points per game.

Game Predictions
Westside Wired predicts the Warriors to win 3 votes to 0 against Bellevue West and to win 3 votes to 0: the boys are on a six game winning streak, and we don’t see it ending this weekend. The team is playing its best basketball of the year, combining its normal offensive potency with its newfound defensive prowess. Metoyer, Herrmann and Kiger will find the basket, as always, in both games, as the Warriors take two wins.
