Playoffs Seeding: How it works

Throughout the season, the Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) has been tallying the results for high school football games. After the last game of the regular season this past Friday, the NSAA used a “power point” system to rank the teams.

In this system, the NSAA looked to see where teams stood as far as their record. If a team had six or more victories they would be considered a division one team, four or five wins would be division two and three wins or less would make a team division three.

From here, the NSAA looked at each schools schedule and awarded them points. For beating a division one team, Westside would receive 50 points, 45 for beating a division two and 40 for beating a division three. For a loss against a division one team 38 points were given, for a loss to a division two team 33 points points were given and for a loss to a division three team 28 points were given.

After the calculations had been made, the NSAA released the seeding, giving Westside the fourth seed.

This Friday the Warriors will have a home game against the No. 13 seed Lincoln Southwest. Westside will have the home game because it has the better seed. If the team wins, it will play the winner of the No. 5 seed Creighton Prep vs. No. 13 seed Papillion-LaVista South game.

If  Prep wins, the Warriors will be the home team because both Westside and Prep were favored to win but Westside has the higher seed. If the team plays Papillion-LaVista South however, the Titans will be the home team because they did not play at home first round, even though Westside has the higher seed.
