District Cross Country: Boys win district
The boys cross country team and one of the girls cross country runners are going to the state cross country meet. At the district tournament in Norfolk Thursday, Oct. 17, the teams competed for a spot in the state meet.
The boys team won their district. Senior Max Knight led the team by placing fourth with a time of 17:13. Senior Jordan Wheeler was close behind Knight with a time of 17:18 and an eighth place finish. Three seconds behind Wheeler was freshman Milo Greder, who placed ninth with a time of 17:21. Sophomore Jakob Phillips placed 16th with a time of 17:43. Senior Dylan Sorrell and sophomore Alec Reilly tied for 22nd place with a time of 17:56.
Winning the district means the Warriors will go on to the state championship as a team. Knight, Wheeler and Greder would have qualified individually.
For the girls, senior Catie Thull placed fifth with a time of 20:27, getting her in to the state tournament. Sophomore Mariah Tessin ran a 22:03 and senior Sarah Snyder was a second behind her with a 22:04. With the help of other runners, the Warriors placed fifth overall. Thull is the only Warrior to make it to state.
Kearney won the girls district.
The state tournament is in Kearney on Oct. 25.
