Boys Tennis Metros Results

The varsity boys tennis team placed fourth at the Metro tournament at Koch Tennis Center Thursday, Oct. 10. Millard North won the tournament, while Creighton Prep and Papillion-LaVista South placed second and third respectively. Papillion-LaVista came in behind Westside with a fifth place finish.

Coming into Metros, the Warriors were seeded fifth at No. 1 singles, fourth at No. 2 singles and third at No. 1 and 2 doubles.

For singles, Westside’s No. 1 singles player junior Sean Padios lost to the Creighton Prep No. 1 0-6, 2-6 to get a fourth place finish. Westside’s No. 2 singles player junior Max Slosburg beat the Papillion-LaVista No. 2 singles player 6-2, 6-4 to take third place.

In No. 1 doubles, senior Camden Bilyeu and junior Tom Kutilek lost 1-6, 1-6 to Papillion-LaVista, giving them a fourth place finish. Senior Tyler Siegel and junior Teigen Swanson beat Papillion-LaVista 7-5 in a tiebreaker, then 6-4 in the second set to get a third place finish at No. 2 doubles.

Bilyeu was happy with the teams fourth place finish.

“Metros went pretty good overall as a team,” Bilyeu said. “We competed well and had good balance across the board.”

The state tournament is Thursday and Friday, Oct. 17 and 18 at the Koch Tennis Center. The seeding for the tournament will be decided Monday, Oct. 14. The Warriors will need big wins to take state.

“We need to improve on our consistency and pull some upsets in order to finish well at state,” Bilyeu said.
