Girls Golf District Invitational
The varsity girls golf team played Tuesday, Oct. 8 at Tiburon in the district meet. In windy conditions, the team missed out on making it to the state meet.
In an eight-team district, the Warriors placed fifth, missing out on the top three finish necessary to qualify for the state meet in Norfolk.
“Well, obviously it wasn’t our best day and it was tough conditions,” said head coach Barry Glanzer. “Sometimes you play well in this game and sometimes you don’t — that’s the game.”
The team had a total score of 432, 24 strokes behind the third place finisher Bellevue East. Junior Clair Selby led the team with a score of 103, while senior Cassie McCormack and sophomore Lyndsey McCormack tied for a 109 and sophomore Claire Nelson shot a 111. Selby narrowly missed on qualifying individually for state, missing out on the necessary top ten finish by two.
Miranda Keeler from Bellevue East won the district individually by shooting a 79. Millard North won the district with a score of 377, while Millard West was in second place with a 407.
Despite the unfortunate result, the Warriors did have some bright spots.
“The highlight of the day was Lyndsey [McCormack] coming back from [a first nine] 63 to a [second nine] 46,” Glanzer said.
